ASMA plein-air painting event
at the parade of sail in Boston, MA.
July 10 - 12, 2026
SailBoston presents an international gathering of tall ships
to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary.
INFORMATION FOR ATTENDEES
This is an informal event — just a chance to get together and watch or paint the tall ships. ASMA is not providing food or drink or transportation.
The epicenter of the event will be the Festival Area and Pier 5. These are across the street from the Hyatt Place Seaport, where many of us are staying. The parade will take place on Saturday, July 11th from about 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The ships will cruise up the river and turn back and dock in the Seaport area.
There will be many places in the seaport area to watch the parade. However, because of heavy security, access to Pier 5 during parade will be restricted. SailBoston gave us 30 passes for artists to paint on Pier 5. (These have been taken.)
These safety procedures are only for Pier 5, and only during the parade on Saturday. Artists are welcome to paint elsewhere during the parade, and anywhere they wish on the other days of the festival.
Don’t feel that you must paint. Many people will probably paint, but others will just be enjoying the day and the ships.
